For biological disease targets to progress through screening, a combination of state-of-the art infrastructure and access to a high quality collection of small molecules is required. We have long been renowned for our expertise in molecular modelling and rapid ligand virtual screening through our proprietary ChemSpace® technology platform. We have extended our services to encompass a range of fully integrated, flexible and cost-effective biological screening capabilities. These are offered both as an integral part of our drug discovery services, and as a customer focused stand-alone service.
Incorporating the extensive expertise of our biologists, and utilizing purpose built facilities at our Bude site, we ensure rapid development and implementation of a range of biochemical and cell functional assays for screening. Swift interpretation and integration of high quality, robust data facilitates rapid and successful progression through screening to the identification of compounds with the desired biological response.
We recognize our customers have differing needs and so make our biological screening services available:
- as part of our integrated drug discovery services which cover hit finding through to pre-clinical candidate selection
- as a stand alone service to develop or optimise assays then conduct screening against targeted or diverse sets of small molecules assembled from our LeadScreen™ collection or provided to us from external sources to identify confirmed hits
- LeadScreen™ sets of ~70,000 in number are provided to our screening customers. These sets are drawn from our LeadQuest® collection which has been designed, synthesised and purified exclusively in-house. LeadQuest consists of lead-like, drug-like screening libraries covering chemical space not typically available from other providers

Our well equipped, purpose built in-house facility offers:
- assay development tailored to customer requirements
- assay transfer to our facility for running screening programs
- screening services utilizing compound sets supplied by the client or supplied by and/or procured by Exelgen
- an instrumentation platform allowing selection of techniques best suited to the particular biochemical screen and incorporating 96 or 384 well screening plate detection by absorbance, fluorescence and luminescence methods
- cell based screens using commercially available or client supplied cell-lines
- Throughput of 100,000 data points per month

To further extend the integrated range of drug discovery services we provide, we work with preferred partners such as Altonabiotech for provision of protein expression and purification expertise and ADMETRx for in vitro ADME / Tox profiling
